overview
Keeping full backups of your website and any associated databases
is
recommended practice. Indeed, retaining backups of any business-
critical data is important, regardless if the data in question is
stored
by
a hosting provider, or on your own computers at home or
in
your office.
PrimePixel carries out daily, weekly and monthly backups of customer
sites as a courtesy service, but customers are advised to keep their
own complete backups, especially of sensitive or valuable files.
PrimePixel will make every effort to assist in restoration of a site
from its backups as required, but can not guarantee to have an
appropriate backup in all situations.
Customers have a backup facility available to them in their site's
control panel, and should use this regularly if appropriate.
how we protect data
PrimePixel implementss several key measures to maintain safety
of
your data. The following is a brief summary of our practices
in that
regard.
disk configurations
All our servers employ either hardware-level RAID 10, or are fitted
with separate backup disk drives.
Essentially, RAID is a time-tested system that uses multiple hard
discs to share or replicate data among drives. Various versions of
RAID variously increase data integrity, fault-tolerance, throughput
and capacity (relative to single disks).
Our specific implementation (RAID 10) is itself a combination of
RAID 0 (also known as a striped set - which splits data evenly
across two or more disks) and RAID 1 (which creates an exact mirror
of a set of data on two or more disks). RAID 10 is thus a "stripe of
mirrors," providing it with the redundancy advantage of zero data
loss even if one drive from each mirrored set completely fails.
backup capabilities
Of course, the only completely safe data is completely duplicated,
independently housed data.
Regardless of the disk drive technology employed on individual
systems, we maintain two sets of backups for all client accounts on
all our servers - one locally (on the separate drive where fitted)
and one remotely, on an entirely separate machine.
